Patient Transport Service

The Sussex Patient Transport Service (PTS) will be run by South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) from 1st April, 2017

SCAS has a wealth of experience in running similar services and is rated ‘good’ by the CQC. The CQC specifically highlighted the care that SCAS staff provide to patients using its patient transport service, rating it as ‘outstanding’.

In order to minimise disruption to patients, the transfer from Coperforma, the current provider, is being phased. The first phase of the transfer started on 1st March 2017, and SCAS is already operating around 15% of journeys – primarily discharges and transfers between hospitals. SCAS is working closely with relevant staff at hospitals and other health providers to ensure they know how to make bookings on the new system. 

Patients do not need to do anything different and should continue to book their transport in the usual way until 31st March 2017. After that date you or your health professional will need to make your booking with SCAS. You can find out how to do that here.
