Where would you go if you needed urgent but not emergency help or advice for your child? Typically you may think about going to your local A&E department or Minor Injuries Unit, but did you know that all children aged 0-5 years and who are registered with a GP in the Mid Sussex area can access same day urgent appointments with a GP?

As well as ensuring you are seen quicker and by the most relevant clinician, going to your GP will #HelpMyAandE by easing pressure on our emergency departments, allowing them to focus on life threatening situations.

You may have seen our local NHS #HelpMyAandE campaign which encourages people (where they are able to) to consider the other services available. We want to ensure parents receive the right care for their children in the right place and don’t spend unnecessary time waiting in A&E. Children can receive the care they need right here in our local community.

As part of the campaign we are keen to bust some myths surrounding GP care in Mid Sussex. As a GP myself in the local area I can confirm that working in partnership, all Mid Sussex GP practices provide same day appointments when a parent is worried about their child's health.

Of course your GP practice may not always be the answer. There are many other local services which can provide the care you and your family needs; your local pharmacy can provide great advice for your family and NHS 111 is a 24-hour phone line to help you decide next steps.
